Things to expect
- Oozing or light bleeding is normal for the first 1 - 2 days after surgery.
- Pain is normal and should be controllable with the pain medication provided by the doctor.
- Many patients cannot breathe well while the internal splints are in place, this is normal.
- Some patients may experience numbness of the front teeth, this is normal and usually returns to normal over months.
What to do
- Okay to remove the nasal drip pad when the oozing has stopped. Replace as needed if oozing continues.
- Gently use the nasal saline spray four times daily to help clean the nasal cavity.
- Apply Bacitracin antibiotic ointment inside the nostrils twice daily.
- It is okay to shower 48 hours after surgery.
- Call Dr. York's clinic to make postoperative appointment for one week after surgery.
- No strenuous physical activity for 2 weeks.
