Pre-operative preparation
The time leading up to your surgery can lead to unnecessary worry. Please rest assured that all the details of your surgery have been arranged and are ready for your arrival long before you actually get there! For worry free preparation, please adhere to the following simple rules:Final time of surgery
Dr York's schedule is finalized by 3pm the day before surgery. This is because many patients, especially children, may become ill and need to reschedule surgery, and this happens all the way up until the day before surgery. You will be contacted before 3pm the day before your surgery to give you the estimated time of surgery and your time of arrival. In general, you will need to arrive 2 hours before the time of surgery, but not before 5am.Medications
- Unless a doctor told you that you must take Aspirin, please cease all aspirin use 5 days before surgery.
- Do not take any unnecessary supplements such as fish oil, ginger, ginseng, or others as they can unknowingly thin the blood.
- Do not use NSAIDs, such as Advil, Motrin, Ibuprofen, Aleve, Naproxen, or others for the 24 hours before surgery as they will thin the blood.
- It is okay to use Tylenol or acetaminophen for pain.
- Do not take most of your diabetes medications while fasting before surgery, this can cause a significant decrease in blood sugar.
- It is okay to take your blood pressure medicine with small sips of water.
