Reflux
Reflux is one of the more common diseases treated by an ENT. One of the most common symptoms of reflux is heartburn. Only 50% of people who suffer from reflux will actually experience heartburn. Other, less well-known symptoms include the feeling of something caught in the throat, change in voice, throat clearing, or a chronic cough. In the usual workup to identify inflammatory changes related to reflux, frequently an in-clinic procedure will be performed. This is called a fiberoptic nasolaryngoscopy. This typically involves a flexible light cord that the doctor will gently guide through the nose and down the back of the throat in order to visualize the voice box.
