Things to expect
- Oozing or light bleeding is normal for the first 1 - 2 days after surgery.
- Pain is normal and should be controllable with the pain medication provided by the doctor.
- Internal nasal splints frequently cause significant nasal obstruction until they are removed the week after surgery.
- If any external bony work was performed, significant bruising and black eyes are common.
- Many patients will experience numbness of the front two teeth; however this frequently gets better over the course of months.
- If an external splint was placed, it will fall off on its own over 1 - 2 weeks.
What to do
- Remove the nasal drip pad in 24 hours. Replace as needed due to oozing.
- Gently use the nasal saline spray four times daily to help clean the nasal cavity.
- Apply the antibiotic ointment inside the nostrils twice daily.
- It is okay to shower 48 hours after surgery.
- Call Dr. York's clinic to make postoperative appointment for one week after surgery.
- No strenuous physical activity for 2 weeks. No sports for 4 weeks.
