Things to expect

Oozing or light bleeding is normal for the first 1 - 2 days after surgery.
Pain is normal and should be controllable with the pain medication provided by the doctor.
Many patients will describe a popping noise in the operated ear directly after surgery, this is normal.
Packing material may fall out of the operated ear, this is normal.
Muffled hearing is normal. It will take 1-2 months for the middle ear packing to dissolve.

Remove dressing (including the cotton ball if it is present) in 24 hours.
If drainage occurs, it is okay to use a cotton ball over ear canal with bandaid or use new gauze and an ear wrap.
Keep the operated ear dry.
Call Dr. York's clinic to make a post-operative appointment for three weeks after surgery.
Call immediately if you experience loud ringing, severe dizziness, or facial weakness.
Okay to shower after 48 hours. Place a cotton ball coated with Vaseline in ear when washing hair to keep ear dry.
No strenuous physical activity until cleared by Dr. York.
