Sinus Surgery Discharge Instructions
Things to expect
- Oozing or light bleeding is normal for the first 1 - 2 days after surgery.
- Pain is usually mild to moderate and should be controllable with the prescribed pain medication.
- Difficulty breathing through your nose in the postoperative period is normal and can be helped with sinus irrigations.
What to do
- Remove the nasal drip pad (if still present) when the oozing stops (usually within 24 to 48 hours, change as needed).
- Perform nasal saline irrigations four times daily for the first week (heat to body temperature for increased comfort).
- Call Dr. York's clinic to make post operative appointment for one week after surgery.
- Antibiotics and/or steroids are sometimes prescribed postoperatively when they are needed.
- It is okay to bathe the day after surgery.
- No strenuous physical activity for 2 weeks.
